There’s a tension in the air. Someone is lurking just around the corner.  Their shadow is being cast against the wall from a flickering street lamp and you can feel your heart begin to pound within your chest.  There’s music coming from an open window across the street.  The bass drum bounces off the walls almost undiscernibly in time with the flickering light and the guitars begin to fill the air.  Making your Heart. Pound. Faster.

That’s what Jay McMeekan’s music brings to a scene.  It magnifies a mood, adds a subtle touch or punctuates humor within the dialog.   Jay is much more than a multi-instrumentalist.  He’s a listener.  He understands the rhythm of a scene, the crescendo within the dialog and knows when music is needed and when periods of silence add to a scene.

Jay’s musical journey began more than three decades ago.  His initial inspiration came from rock bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd, the Police and U2.   But Jay’s musical style is also influenced by jazz and he’s not bounded by traditional genres.  A technology and production perfectionist, Jay studies the masters of musical cinema, appreciates the art of the jingle, and finds himself coming back to the studio to analyze the key elements of a pop tune.  A song that have him, his wife and two daughters singing along at top volume as they drive to the beach or run errands in their NYC suburb of Westfield, NJ.
